Summer of the Moon Flower The de Vargas Family Book 2 eBook Annie Seaton
Having only recently been introduced to the steampunk genre, I think I'm now - officially - hooked. Victorian Era sensibilities, combined with steam machines of all varieties is simply too much fun to ignore. Indigo's perambulator, alone, is worthy of a least one belly laugh.Add in some mystery, intrigue, time travel, the Knights Templar, a good old-fashioned romance and ... Welcome to Summer of the Moon Flower.
The second book in the de Vargas Family series follows younger sister, Sofia. Although, for all appearances, she runs the most popular couture house in Vienna, it is her after-hours work that has attracted attention - the wrong kind of attention.
Continuing her father's research into the healing properties of the Alpine moon flower, Sofia runs afoul of the Knights Templar. The clandestine order believes that it holds the monopoly on immortality, abhors science, and has ordered the death of our intrepid couturier/ scientist.
Enter Dougal, the Earl of Rothmore. Charged by his Templar elders to end Sofia's research, and her life, he isn't quite what he seems. Or is he?
Although it only took a few hours to devour, don't let the mere 133 pages fool you. There is a lot happening between the covers of this book. Fast-paced and intense, this is a wonderful read. I still have pictures dancing in my imagination, especially of Dougal in his kilt.
Now, the down side: Perhaps it's picking nits, but I found myself wondering what happened to Sofia's little gun, dropped during the confrontation at the Westbahnhof. There were, sadly, a number of errors (mostly later in the book) that seemed to be rewrite-related. It was as though phrases were redone, yet both the original and revised text remained.
With that said, this is a book that I highly recommend. The small issues I had don't ruin the great story; it would simply be that much better without them.
And, since I missed the beginning of the saga, I have to see about getting a copy of book one and rein in my impatience for books three and four.

Summer of the Moon Flower The de Vargas Family Book 2 eBook Annie Seaton Reviews
When starting this book I honestly had no idea it was steampunk or that there had been a book prior to this one however I jumped in with both feet and what a exciting jump it was. Right from the beginning you are caught up in the exhilerating mystery. Sophia de Vargas is a strong character that you can easily latch on to. I loved the European setting and the injection of time travel that brings in a historical aspect as well. Alittle romance thrown in for good measure but certainly not a dominate part of the book. It can be heavy at times in scentific and historic content but over all it is really good!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review from Babs Blog Tour.
I read WINTER OF THE PASSION FLOWER, the first in the de Vargas family series, before turning to this one so I knew what I was in for, meaning the automata and dirigibles didn’t take me by surprise.
The story follows the younger of two sisters, Sofia, as fair as her older sister Indigo from Summer flower is dark. Indigo lives in Cornwall UK, Sofia in Vienna. She is as committed to science as her sister but given that she’s seeking immortality it’s a pursuit she’s keeping to herself lest her enemies in the form of the Knights Templar discover it.
Once again the story is a sprinkling of sci-fi laced with romance and thrills. Her enemies send a young Scots nobleman to kill her and, yes, you should be able to guess the outcome.
I liked the juxtaposition of future technology and Victorian era. It made for an entertaining read interspersed with the unexpected.
As with the first in the series I wanted to finish this story in the one sitting. Very achievable as it’s not a long book.
If you love action books filled with danger, suspense, mystery and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seats, but also like myself love when a bit of paranormal gets mixed it then this is the book for you.
Annie Seaton is one of the best author of our time and she delivers every time. Be it a good old fashioned romance or a steam-punk or call it paranormal action suspense, you name it this author can give me as reader everything I expect from her books.
In Summer of the moon flower she has certainly done so again. The book had enough action and suspense to make a James Bond movie look like a low budget action gone wrong. Not to mention the paranormal and steam-punk elements, that were so stunningly combined and incorporated brining forth a tale of a heroine that will stay with me as reader for a long time.
The author has a particular unique manner of writing that leaves me as reader with vivid descriptions, amazing "time zones" and memorable characters. The book left me with the impression that woman heroic or not can and will prove their worth if given the chance.I will add that the author not only brings that message into full play but also just blows you away!
The book kept me on the edge of my seat, seeking more to find the answers and hidden message beneath. This was not only a emotional and memorable read but one that will leave you entranced and wanting more.
Brilliant work Annie!
5/5 star review
Great flowing read. Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot. The Italian backdrop lured me into visualization of the story in my minds eye. Recommended reading.
Annie Seaton is an amazing author and I loved all the suspense that this book brought. This is great reading for those long, lonely summer nights -)
I haven't been swept away by the steampunk phenomena, mostly because there are other genres that hold my current attention. This book surprised the hell out of me. Well written, fun, and fresh, I'm so glad I took a chance and grabbed it.
It seemed to quit in the middle.
