Pay Dirt Lost Falls Book 2 edition by Chris Underwood Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Chris Underwood has developed a great little UF world here, as richly detailed and engaging as any of the big authors in the field. Now that some of those big names are on hiatus or have gone back to the well one too many times to bother with, I was digging deep into Amazon looking for a new supernatural fix. I'm always leery of self-pubbed works because of the tendency to typos and continuity errors and such, and I was pleasantly surprised at being wrong here and just how well done this book is. I enjoyed getting to know his cunning man protagonist, the various ghouls, hags, and revenants that populate Lost Falls, and I finished it entirely too quickly. Both the first book, Cunning Man, and this sequel are cleverly plotted, well written, and overall he's done a nice spin on the whole genre. I eagerly await the next in the series - please keep them coming!

Pay Dirt Lost Falls Book 2 edition by Chris Underwood Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

As in the first book of this series, this one is chock full of urban fantasy action, snarky humor, and numerous plot twists. Worth a read, for sure.
Fantastic sequel to Cunning Man, loved this two book series, as soon as I finished the first I immediately read this one. Reminds me of early Jim Butcher Dresden Files, and as well written. Don't stop writing, More Please!!!
Yay! A great second in the series. I'm sorry it took so long to finish the book, just my crazy life and certainly not because the book was a slow read. It's fast paced and filled with action and bodies. Keep 'em coming Chris Underwood!
Have you ever started to read a book and found it was so good that you had to force yourself to so put it down so you didn't finish it all it one sitting. This is one of those books. A lot of people have compared it to the Dresden Files which I guess is the gold standard for urban fiction. After I read the first book "Cunning Devil" I was hoping that this next book would be as good and it was. I didn't think I would ever say this about another series but I think I like it as well as or even better. It has many of the things liked so much from the Dresden files such as the humor but still feels very original and not just a copy. I found the main character Osric "Ozzy" Turner to be particular engaging. The world he has created is imaginative and has a lot of room for growth in future stories. I think this could become the new gold standard for urban fiction. I definitely recommend that you give this book and this series a try. I don't think you'll be sorry.
A fantastic effort by Chris Underwood, who has crafted a sequel just as good as the first book, if not even better. Once Underwood gets the ball rolling, it will keep picking up speed until the very end, so like anyone else who has read both books in this series, I’m waiting on the edge of my seat until the next one comes out. Absolutely stellar.
His plots were workable, but; his hero needed work.

Wise cracks are great, but it they become the story line and the subplot they become tiresome. Also, the constant last second saves, there were just to many of them. Almost every chapter had a "Saved by a Miracle" moment. His hero also kept making the same mistakes in judgement over and over, then we had page after page of the hero whining about messing up and everything was his fault in an orgy of self punishment for all his misdeeds since birth. In spite of this and a few other problems, I hung on to the end. Mainly I wanted, nay, I needed, I HAD to know where he went with the plot.
In the end, I actually enjoyed the books, although I think I'll wait before buying book 3.
The ghoul claims he’s cursed. Ozzy Turner tells him he isn’t, and Ozzy ought to know. He makes a living breaking curses and finding lost items, and every test he knows has come up empty. He’s right; when the ghoul turns up dead—decapitated—the next day, it wasn’t a curse that killed him. The ghoul’s death comes hard on the heels of a message from an old friend asking for Ozzy’s help—a friend appearing to be involved in the same business, whatever it is, as the ghoul—and Ozzy dives in without second thoughts. He soon finds himself, once again, in serious trouble. With his mentor Early missing, his undead girlfriend Lillian going berserk, and a deadly wraith on a rampage through the town of Lost Falls, the odds are not looking good for Ozzy surviving another journey deep underground.

Pay Dirt, Chris Underwood’s second novel in the Lost Falls series featuring cunning man Ozzy Turner, is as good as the first, Cunning Devil. This urban fantasy, with a likeable protagonist and sympathetic portrayals of the town’s oddball preternatural residents, takes us on a fast-paced ride through their world. The fractured community of Strangers, held together by mutual fear of exposure, is under attack by a group of fanatical witch hunters intent on slaughtering them all.

I won’t give any more away, but the end, while resolving the immediate crisis, leaves enough plot threads dangling to spin out several more Lost Falls stories. I’m looking forward to them.

Audience adults and older teens. No sex, but plenty of gore, violence, and foul language.
