This book was a very pleasant surprise. The characters were real, they were fun, and you cared about them. The medical situations were real, well described, and kept the plot moving without getting bogged down in medical minutiae. The jokes were funny, the character development was paced just right so you could learn to love the characters as you went. The reader wasn't expected to instantly love one character and hate another (except for Mr. Evil, but the nickname kind of gave that one away)
It was apparent rather quickly that the book was written by a female. There are far more descriptions of the love interests good looks and sculpted chest and deep seated integrity than there are of the protagonist and her attributes.
What can I say? - it's a good story. It's fun to read, it's clean, fast paced, realistic. It draws you in so you really care what happens. It isn't all rose colored perfection - bad things happen, and people are left to deal with the aftermath. Hodnett's descriptions of PTSD are accurate, which makes them all the more heart wrenching.
My main complaint is the ending - it ended like a chick-flick instead of a plotted story. I didn't feel there was enough resolution. It reached one conclusion, and left the entire world and outside plots hanging. Maybe that's because there are sequels to be written, or maybe that's because the point of this book was just that - Enjoy the little victories, the good times, the heart-felt moments - because the world keeps on turning whether you do or not.

Sara in the Army Brenda Hodnett Janeya Hinton Books Reviews
I couldn't put it down until I was done. Loved it.
I loved it, and couldn't put it down!
I must admit, I bought this book because I know Brenda. What a thrill read a good clean romance written by a hometown girl. Way to go Brenda!
"Sara in the Army" will please you if you are interested in a good story with likable characters who develop as the story unfolds -- and who actually live honorable lives based on principles like kindness, devotion to duty, and respect for others. Read it. You won't be sorry.
A fabulous book. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading but it didn't take me long to get hooked! Couldn't put it down until I finished it. Now I have to agonizingly wait for the sequel! A lot of promise for this first time author. This book blended a romance with a plot full of unpredictable twists and turns. Excellent and CLEAN read. Keep it up Brenda! Can hardly wait for the next book to come out!
This book was very intriguing & interesting! Brenda weaves an interesting tale about life as an Army medic who was drafted in a future war while in her last year of medical school. Finding out more of her background & seeing her skills & talents her superiors granted her doctor status! The whole story is very amazing & highly believable. Her amazing knowledge of things medical was very surprising to me! Having been drafted during Vietnam I knew & served with so many professional people who were also drafted, postponing promising careers to serve their country! Anyway, having gone on to serve for 25 years, I very much enjoyed a look back at military life from a talented & gifted writer! Great job, Brenda on your amazing "maiden voyage" into the publishing world! I can't wait to read your next book!!
I enjoyed the book however the author is unfamiliar with the military and that made the book lacking in the beginning. That fact was hard to ignore. First the title is Sara in the Army and the cover is that of a Marine Corps officer. Then there is the use of the term Private which really makes the lead character unreal in the beginning. Sara would be higher in rank when we first meet her in the story line. Then as a "private" she would not be billeted with an officer. After the initial section of the book the lack of knowing how the military works eases off and you can get into the story line easier. As a romance novel it was good and despite of the above mentioned items and a few errors or typos. I would have liked to have seen a better ending like some of the other reviews. Overall I did like the book.
